Stoner Creek Fishing Report

I

Sabrina was off work today. We discussed what to do today, go Turkey Hunt or go Fishing. Fishing won. I decided to take her to Fryman’s because she has never fished Stoner or been to Fryman’s Boat Dock. We launched about 11 am. The water was clear and 67 degrees with some current.  I believe the creek was up 4 to 6 inches. We went up into Strodes Creek. She started with a shad color crankbait that reached a depth of 4 feet. I did something different and started fishing a 3 inch craw. In the first 100 yards I boated 5 fish and she boated 2 small fish. It was a slow bite till the sun started to shine. The fish turned on. We switched to shallow stickbaits. Most of the fish were near the bank and we never caught one deeper than 3 feet. They were on wood, on rock or just out in the middle of the creek at times. The biggest negative was they were running a little small. Most were in the 9 to 11 inch range, We boated I would say close to 20 that were keepers or bigger. I did hook one fish in the 3 to 4 lbs range but was unable to land it. All our fish were caught on ultralite rods and 6 lb line that made it FUN. We caught a number of doubles and on 2 or 3 occasions we hooked 2 fish on the same lure, unfortunately we were never able to land both fish. We also boated a bunch of big Bluegill. We finished the day with Sabrina boating 56 bass and I boated 59. A total of 115 bass. Most of the fish were Largemouths, the few Smallies we caught were mostly dinks. The fish are biting so if possible go give them a try. Till the next post hope to see you on the water.

ps Remember I will be giving a fishing class at Fryman’s on April 29, starting at 10 am. Maybe you may figure out how we catch our fish.
