A total of 6 of us took a guided float fishing trip down the New River near Beckley West Virginia. We use the New River Outfitters owned by Dewaun Gilkerson. I have been using Dewaun as a outfitter at least 2 times a year for the last 7 or 8 years. If you want to have a great fishing trip and great food please try the 2 day over night trip. Dewaun has a cabin right on the river that you stay over night in. This trip was just great. Kent and I in our boat caught 203 smallmouth’s in 2 days. The fish were running from 10 to 17 inches. The guys in the other boat didn’t keep a count , but I am sure that the 3 boats caught over 500 smallmouth’s for the trip. The guides we used Randy, Seth and Carl were great and they know how to keep you on the fish. It is also allot of fun running the rapids. The river was clear and running at about 4000 CFS. We caught most of our fish on small crankbaits. If you ever want a great smallmouth trip I recommend New River Outfitters.(their web site is http://www.small-mouth.com) The beauty of the New River Gorge is worth the trip. We are already starting to plan a fall trip. Till the next report hope to see you on the water.
